The book begins with an interesting story that captivates you. It’s the story of an injured man who faced death.
The book is about the importance of habits and how they can change our lives.
One thing that inspired me about the book was James’ college story, how he persevered in going to bed early, at fixed hours, while the rest of his classmates lost their nights. This habit brought him good results in school and in his sports career.
The book is really about how good habits, even small and insignificant ones, practiced regularly, can change our lives for the better. Success can be achieved in a variety of areas with good habits.
For example, if you want to become a good athlete, you have to start practicing sports regularly, without ever missing a workout, even on days when you don’t feel like it.
If you want to get rich, you have to learn to save regularly, without interrupting this habit. And so on.
The author has become a successful blogger and author because he has made a habit of posting articles regularly on his blog. From just a few hundred subscribers, it has reached impressive numbers in a relatively short amount of time.
Some ideas from the book
1. You don’t have to work hard to be successful. It is enough to be constant, to take small steps, but always forward.
2. Associate a healthy habit with a pleasure. It is the best way to establish a habit. For example, after a round of running, do something you enjoy. In this way you will associate pleasure with good habit.
3. When you want to give up a bad habit, try to make it less attractive. For example, hide your sweets or cigarettes, make them as unaccessible as possible.
4. Be flexible! A man who is not malleable as a personality is like a dead man.
5. The family plays an important role in shaping habits.
6. Develop your talent! To be successful, improve the part you are endowed with by nature. Take advantage of it! For example, if you are a good runner, you will not become an accountant, try to become a sportsman and strive for performance.
If you are good at calculations but you are not very athletic, go to the field of mathematics!
7. Habits shape your identity. If you run every day you can call yourself a man who likes sports. But if you do it at long intervals and sporadically running sport will not characterize you. Therefore, you will not be able to call yourself an athlete. A flower does not make spring.
8. The environment is important. For example, if you always have a fruit bowl in the kitchen on the fruit table, you are more prone to a healthy life. It is also valid for each other. For this reason, control your environment.
I liked the idea of the book. I liked the story from the beginning and the fact that it offers practical advice. I didn’t like that at some point in the book the author derailed from the subject.
I give four stars to this book.
