Today I tell you a story that may be true, because there is no smoke without fire. Once upon a time, there was a very rich man. He was a farmer. All the people wanted his jewels. He had gold, silver, emeralds, and the largest diamonds.
So, one day there came to him a very poor man, almost stuck. He only had a patch of land around his poor house. And come to this man with an open soul, to ask him how he can be rich, too. This rich man said to him: in the earth, in the very center of the earth, there is a great diamond, the biggest. If you reach it, you will be the richest.
-How do I get to him? asked the poor man?
-Do you have land? asked the richest man?
-Yes! answered the poor man.
– Well, take some seeds from me, and go and pretend to cultivate the land. Dig, but in such a way that no one knows you’re digging for the diamond at the center of the earth. Pretend that you’re just plowing, that you’re plowing the land. But make sure no one knows.
All the villagers and all the poor came to our rich industrious farmer. They gave them the same advice, and the same he had told them, that no one should know the secret. Thus, everyone who had a patch of land that could be cultivated began to dig for diamonds. And so, they all avoided each other, not wanting to reveal that they were digging for diamonds, they pretended to be working the land. They pretended so well that in autumn they all had a harvest, and they had something to eat, they had started to trade in vegetables and had become a village with the richest people.
